Minneapolis Advisory Committee on People with Disabilities
On March 30, 1990 the City Council adopted Resolution 90R-115, reestablishing an Advisory Committee on People with Disabilities to provide advice and guidance.
The Committee’s desire is that through their input and work, residents and visitors with disabilities will enjoy a more accessible and complete experience of the City and be more engaged the opportunities afforded to all persons.
The Minneapolis Advisory Committee on People with Disabilities (MACOPD) serves as a resource to the Mayor, City Council and all City elected officials, leaders and departments to ensure proactive and holistic planning is in place and that appropriate actions are taken to prevent and address issues affecting persons with disabilities as a part of their work. The Committees provides advisory services regarding Americans with Disabilities Act mandates and ways in which the City of Minneapolis can be more accessible for all persons.
The MACOPD meets every 3rd Wednesday of the month between 4:30 – 6:30 PM in Room 132 City Hall. All meetings are open to the public but we follow strict agenda and often have a busy agenda so guests do not speak unless they arrange in advance.

- To improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities in the City of Minneapolis by ensuring greater access to employment, education, housing, retail, entertainment and recreation opportunities;
- To improve relationships between public and private entities, therefore expanding employment and consumer opportunities for all members of the community;
- To improve physical and program access to all city services, programs, benefits and activities for individuals with disabilities; and
- To educate and serve as a resource to the City of Minneapolis on issues related to disabilities
Additionally, specific goals are met annually.

The disability committee has 15 members. They are appointed in two year terms. Committee members are appointed by Mayor, with City Council approval, 7 in odd numbered years, 8 in even numbered years using the City's open appointment process.
